Hey yogis! Suz here!
I thought I would do a little post about SKIN! As someone who suffered from acne as a teenager, I know what it is like to deal with problem skin. However, since hot yoga became a core element in my lifestyle, I have had next to no problems with my skin- and I have never looked back!

It is common knowledge that hot yoga helps you to lose weight, build strength and tone up… but your body isn’t the only thing that will benefit! One of the most common changes I see in our teacher trainees throughout their course is that after just a few days of consistent hot yoga practice, their skin gets what I like to call ‘the hot yoga glow!’ I also see it in students who start coming into the studio for more regular classes. Why? Because like in all areas of success in life, consistency is the key! Hot yoga has so many benefits for your skin and with a regular practice, it gives a glow that no make up or skin product can provide!
So, why is it so good for your skin? Here are a few reasons:
Sweat
This is the obvious one. The more we sweat, the more we detoxify our bodies. Sweating is one of the ways our bodies get rid of the toxins and waste that can cause problems in our skin.
Pores
Blocked pores often cause pimples. When we sweat and warm up, our pores open, allowing any dirt or waste to be alleviated from the skin.
Thyroid
If you have done yoga before, you know that some poses constrict your throat and neck area, which is where our thyroid gland is. Amongst other things, the thyroid balances our hormone levels (which can cause havoc for our skin if they are irregular or unsteady)
Hygiene
What is the FIRST thing you want to do when you get home from a hot yoga class? SHOWER. This cleans away any of the toxins or waste sweated out during class, leaving your skin clean. REMEMBER: Always shower as soon as possible after a hot yoga class (or any sweaty sport!). Sitting around in your sweaty clothes is poor hygiene and can cause all sorts of problems with the skin!
Appetite
Hot yoga has been known to decrease the appetite and give people more control over what they eat. Choosing healthier options when it comes to food can also drastically help your skin condition. Diet is important here!
People often ask me what my skin routine is, which I am always really flattered by as I haven’t always had clear skin like this! The answer to their questions? I credit hot yoga for the condition of my skin! Pimples? I Barley ever get any! My skin has also become soft all over and feels constantly moisturised. However, I do have a simple skin routine that I like to stick to (as most girls do!).
Here are my personal tips and tricks:
- Each morning I wash my face water & add Amore Pacific day face cream, which is a natural botanic of bamboo extracts. The product is from South Korea – amazing & also anti aging! It is a little on the expensive side, however it does work amazingly.
- When I shower I cleanse my face with a gentle daily wash by Arbonne. This helps to remove any makeup and also any dirt from the skin, leaving it clear.
- At night I use Arbonne night cream. This is also anti-aging and allows my skin to rejuvenate over night. Arbonne is also made with all natural plant extracts.
- For a face mask, I like to make my own! I love putting avocado on my skin, sometimes mixed with natural yoghurt and raw egg. If I have time to relax, I put cucumbers on my eyes (sometimes Mike puts these on for me, haha!).
- This is a natural home remedy given by my beautician Manju (a lovely Indian lady who owns Love Beauty in flinders park area of Adelaide)!
- I also put olive oil on my upper thighs to tighten them and to reduce cellulite
My secrets are out!
